God, how much is a million dollars to you?

Hebrews 4:16
“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (NIV)

Today’s Thought
I heard a story about a guy who was sizing-up God in a conversation. He asked, “God, how long is a million years to you?” God replied, “A million years is like a second.”

So then the man asked, “So how much is a million dollars to you.” To this God replied, “A million dollars is like a penny.”

The man grinned and said, “Could you spare a penny?”

Not missing a beat God quipped, “Sure, just wait a second.”

!

I like that story because it helps us think about how big God is in a fun way.

To God, a million dollars is like a penny. And a million years is like a second.

With that in mind, let me ask this: When we pray, why are we so timid?

Yesterday I was leading a Bible study and we all kind of marveled at this verse: “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

Approach God’s throne of grace with… confidence.

If I’m being honest, when I approach God’s throne in prayer, my prayers aren’t always that confident. My prayers are supposed to be like a lion, but they’re often like a mouse.

But because of what Jesus has done, we can pray BOLDLY in God’s throne room.

Today, pray boldly. Pray those big God-honouring, abundant-life-expanding prayers because God is big and has big kingdom dreams for us all.

To him, a million dollars is like a penny. And a million years is like a second.

With a God that big, why would you not ask him for what only he can give?

As Mark Batterson says, “Are your problems bigger than God, or is God bigger than your problems?”
