Today’s Thought
Every single day opportunities come our way. They are often disguised as hum-drum conversations, daily routines, or things people tell you.
A lot of these daily details are just that—details. But tucked into the conversation at the office, email with a friend, and random chunks of free time…
Are opportunities.
In 1987 Howard Schultz had to make a tough decision. Should he give up the security of his $75,000 salary to buy a small chain of coffee houses which was weirdly titled Starbucks? It was both a risk AND an opportunity. He went for it. Five years later it went public and now has over 16,580 stories in 40 countries with revenues in excess of 4.7 billion.
This week you may not get a chance to buy Starbucks. But you’ll have conversations with people who need some support, you’ll have some free time that you can either waste or invest in something renewing, or you’ll stumble upon a chance to take that next best step you’ve always wanted to take.
What we call “missed opportunities” are usually skipped opportunities. We think we’ve missed something, when we’ve really just closed our eyes, arms and hearts to what’s right in front of us.
There are 1784 “ifs” in the Bible. They’re conditional conjuctions—which means that the outcome of a whole bunch of situations are conditional on someone making a choice. Someone like you.
This week, instead of trudging through life like it’s a prison sentence, see each day for what it truly is:
An opportunity to see, discover and create something great.
