Yesterday I talked about setting priorities. Hopefully you were able to think it through and name some of your non-negotiables.
But let’s take the next step: Start to adjust your weekly routine to better reflect those priorities.
Friends, this is where the rubber meets the road. Why? Because it involves change.
Maybe a priority for you is getting out of your comfort zone and serving God more boldly. If so, what in your weekly routine are you going to change to make that happen?
Maybe a priority is a career path (or friends) who better reflect your values. If so, what in your weekly routine are you going to change to make that happen?
Maybe a priority is to not spend money you don’t already have. If so, what in your weekly routine are you going to change to make that happen?
A part of the reason this can be difficult is because saying Yes to important things means saying No to less important things. Author and speaker Lysa TerKeurst says it like this: “The best Yes is sometimes No.”
In other words, you need to say no to certain demands on your time and energy if you’re truly going to be available for what matters most. If you don’t, your commitment is a watered-down shrug of limited value.
Proverbs 4:26 says, “Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.” Notice how it says to give “careful” thought to the paths for your feet, not “careless” thought.
I realize this is hard, and that it may take time. But set the wheels in motion. Start to adjust your weekly routine to better reflect your priorities. And remember, in a world of demands and distractions, the best Yes is sometimes No.
