Hello! The Up Devotional is glad to be back after two weeks of vacation.
My family spent some time at the ocean. And yes, it was warm enough to swim. We even saw dolphins!
One day my daughters and I were jumping in the waves. They would crash into us. We tried to keep our balance and also the salt water out of our mouths.
After a while I glanced back at the shore. Surprisingly, we had drifted quite a distance from the beach house we were staying at.
That’s like life. If you’re not paying attention, the powerful and prevailing currents of our day can draw you away from where you’re supposed to be. Next thing you know you’re in unfamiliar waters with stingrays, sharks, daylight running out, and loose bearings.
“Kids, we’re drifting too far away!”
So, what is home base, you may ask? What is that place from which we should not drift? Quite simply, it’s the Lord. Ground zero is more than an address; it’s an embrace. “You are my Father, my God, the rock of my salvation” (Psalm 89:26).
Are you frolicking in the waves? Have you lost sight of the shore? In the scurry of distraction are you drifting from home base, and God your rock, and what matters most?
If your heart is still beating there is time to re-centre.
