Proverbs 18:15
“Intelligent people are always ready to learn.” (NLT)
Today’s Thought
“You learn something new every day.”
I’ve heard people say that a thousand times. In fact, I’VE probably said it a thousand times.
Usually it’s in response to some random fact… like realizing how many calories are in a serving of French fries, or that 95% of the ocean remains unexplored, or that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is only 23 years old. (Okay, I made that last one up.)
But recently I’ve started to question the “you learn something new every day” mentality.
I just don’t think most people learn something new every day. (And, for the record, I don’t think I do either.) Maybe it’s me being cynical, but zillions of opportunities present themselves… but we often miss (or avoid) them.
In Proverbs we read: “Intelligent people are always ready to learn.” It doesn’t say “Intelligent people have all the answers,” or that “Intelligent people have knowledge served to them on a silver platter.”
It says they are “always ready to learn.” That means every day.
People who actually learn something new every day are the ones who truly live. I think they have their eyes and ears open to what God is really doing. As a result, they not only experience a richer world, but they contribute to one.
So today, don’t just wait til the learning comes to you. Seek it out.
The more you learn the more you live. Not the other way around.
