Intentionally in light of eternity

1 John 3:18
“let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” (ESV)

Today’s Thought
Music takes what you feel and believe on a deep level and gives it expression in a way that you couldn’t by yourself.

Quite often when we hear a song that we love we just can’t help but be moved. It’s as if our soul is shouting “Yes!”

Hollyn in an artist I came across recently while listening to Life 100.3 FM. So I went and looked her up. What I found was the video for Love With Your Life (which I then bought on iTunes):

“Don’t look to the left or right
You know the future’s worth the fight…
L-O-V-E rolls off the tongue
But sometimes the word’s just not enough
Gotta dig a little, dig a little deeper”

What she means is that it’s easy for us to talk about “love.” But if you really want to have integrity in your faith…

“You gotta love with your life
Like a fire burning strong
Til’ the night has come and gone
There’s a hope that lives in you
You gotta love with your life
Like a warrior
Fight, lay it on the line
If you wanna see a change
You gotta love with your life”

In music, dissonance is when two notes don’t go together. Think of out-of-tune bagpipes or two people playing two different songs on their recorders.

But harmony is when the two notes blend perfectly and make something higher. In the journey of faith we call this harmony between our words and actions “integrity.”

But it’s what she says toward the end that really captures me: “I wanna live intentionally in light of eternity.”

That’s harmony. That’s integrity… Living intentionally in light of eternity.

I don’t mind “living in the now”—but only if that now is harmonious with who God is calling me to be in eternity.

Today, ask yourself: Am I living intentionally in light of eternity?

“Like a warrior
Fight, lay it on the line
If you wanna see a change
You gotta love with your life”
