Not made of stuff that sinks

Speaking to his disciples, Jesus said: “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth… you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you” (John 14:16-17).

There was a cork who was having a great time just bobbing up and down in the ocean.

But a whale came along and decided he was going to have some fun with the cork. So he pounded him down into the water with his massive tail. Splash! The cork went way down into the water, swirled around for a bit, but then came back up.

After all, corks float.

But the whale wasn’t satisfied. He really wanted to mess with the cork. So he swam toward him at great speed, jumped out of the water, and came crashing down on the cork belly first. The cork plunged way down into the water, even further than before. He swirled around in the current a little bit, made his way through some bubbles, and came back up.

This upset the whale. So he got another one of his big whale friends, and together they swam toward the cork from opposite directions, jumped out of the water at the same time, and came down together on the cork, side by side, sandwiching him, plunging him even further toward the bottom of the ocean.

The cork went waaaay down, swirled around in the depths of the ocean, but eventually floated back to the surface.

The cork looked over at the whales and said, “You might as well give up. I’m not made of stuff that sinks.”*

Well, if you’re a follower of Christ, neither are you.

People may try to get you down. Insult you. Criticize you. Mess with you. Threaten you. But God is with you. In Christ you have love, forgiveness, salvation and purpose. Plus, the Holy Spirit is in you!

Today, fear not. You are not made of stuff that sinks.
