When a pilot gets into the cockpit I think it’s important that he or she isn’t drunk, dizzy or dozy.
There are times when alertness is very important!
Imagine writing a final exam, suiting up for a playoff game, or making a big presentation at work and being asleep at the switch.
Another time that alertness is important is when we are spending time with God.
I realize there are days when it’s simply hard to put one foot in front of the other. But in general, set yourself up for success by having your devotional time when you are alert.
Do you always fall asleep in the middle of your prayers? Do your eyes go blurry before you’re done your Bible chapter?
Perhaps you need to shift when you’re doing things to improve how you’re doing things.
What if God was speaking to you or directing you… but you were too adrift to notice?
In Psalm 84:10, the sons of Korah show how valuable, urgent and beautiful it is to spend time with God: “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere…” Those words remind us that there is no place better than the presence of the Almighty.
Alertness is important when spending time with God.
Perhaps you need to shift when you’re doing things to improve how you’re doing things.
