“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity” (Proverbs 17:17).
Glenn Peterson is the President and Superintendent of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Canada. Recently he said, “You can never have enough kingdom friends.”
Isn’t that the truth! In a world with a lot of isolation and anger, having friends who are fellow pilgrims in the footsteps of Jesus is valuable beyond measure.
“Kingdom friends,” as he puts it, are something we can’t get enough of but probably don’t have enough of.
Some people know a lot of people. Some know a few. Some have a lot of acquaintances (but not many actual friends), and some haven’t had the privilege of knowing the difference.
Kingdom friends have your best interests at heart; they stick with you through adversity; they know how to both give and take; they are honest; they laugh and cry with you; they pray for you; and they try to build you up as a disciple of the risen Jesus.
The fresh air of friendship is a gift from God for the living of these days, especially when the air is heavy with uncertainty, cynicism or stink.
“You can never have enough kingdom friends.”
