Discuss your priorities

If you’re reading or listening to this, you’re probably someone who values priorities.

Otherwise, you wouldn’t be subscribed to a devotional which is dedicated to keeping our focus on God. The greatest command is an articulation of priorities: “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?… The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.… Love your neighbor as yourself’ (Mark 12:28-31).

Let me make a suggestion for those who are having a hard time at living out their priorities, whether they have to do with faith, your household, your relationships, your goals, your work, or whatever they happen to be.

Discuss your priorities with the people closest to you.

These people play a major role in our lives. They can help us achieve our priorities, or they can make it harder to achieve them, especially if their priorities are different from our own.

That’s why talking about it can be a good step forward. Maybe they can help. Maybe they can stop doing or saying something which is directing you off course because they didn’t know it was having a negative impact on you.

Honesty is the best policy. It also helps you stay true to your priorities.

Discuss your priorities with the people closest to you.
