Hello everyone, I’m back from three weeks of vacation—and so is The Up Daily Devotional!
I caught some Z’s, a sunburn and a fish.
Business and marketing expert Seth Godin has written: “We need to stop shopping for lightning bolts.”*
When it comes to faith, many people seem to be seeking cheap thrills—flashy and electrifying, but fleeting. Kind of like lightning bolts. Here one moment to dazzle, but gone the next.
But Jesus is not that. His light endures. It sustains you over the long haul. His power and brilliance is true and pure, prevailing through eternity. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5).
Do you want flash-in-the-pan spiritual thrills, or do you want enduring light, wisdom and joy to sustain you through the valley of the shadow of death and beyond?
Me too.
As your calendar flips from August to September, re-establish weekly patterns that put you in Jesus’ light as much as possible. This doesn’t mean you’ll never encounter any darkness; it means it’ll never overcome you.
“We need to stop shopping for lightning bolts.”
