A cord of three strands

Ecclesiastes 4:12 says: “A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

True. One cord is more easily broken than a braid with three strands of that same cord.

But like so many other things in the Bible, it’s a concept that can be applied more widely.

Let’s say you are one strand. By yourself, you’re probably okay—sometimes.

Now let’s add God to the mix. That improves your strength exponentially!

Further still, let’s add other people. They represent strand number three.

That cord is not quickly broken! It can withstand greater stress and strain than if you were just there dangling in the universe by your little lonesome.

Surround yourself with practices which draw you closer to God. Also surround yourself with faithful people who can support you, hold you accountable, and make you laugh.

Life is tough. Agreed. Thankfully, God has sent help.

“A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
