This week I’ve been encouraging you to think about how you are valuable. This is no power of positive thinking. This is rooted in Scripture. You are made in God’s image (Genesis 1:27), and you are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14).
When we read our Bibles, or speak to a Christian friend, or read or listen to a devotional like this one, we silently nod our head in agreement to these statements about our value and worth.
But then the day continues. We go to school or work. We watch the news. Someone says something that bothers us. We over indulge the unceasing negativity which bounces around in our noggins.
That’s when we start to forget who we are. Instead, we buy in to the lies that we are only valuable if people say (or don’t say) certain things about us, or if our lives look a certain way, or if we fit the mould of popular culture.
If you’re prone to forget your God-given value, here’s something simple you can do. Whenever you see yourself in the mirror, whisper this: “image of God.” Or perhaps when you’re driving your car, riding your bike, or going for a walk, say: “fearfully and wonderfully made.”
Biblical truth has a way of de-clawing the dark claws of deception which can painfully embed themselves in the flesh of your heart.
I once heard about a sweater in a closet. It wasn’t worn very often. It was tattered. But the owner couldn’t throw it out. Why not? Because it had a label with three words: “Made my mom.”
That sweater had value because of who made it and because it was made with love.
So it is with you. Your soul has a label with three words: “Made by God.”
