Have you ever wondered if you should have been born in another time? Perhaps 19th century France or even in the pioneer days?
I realize that it’s fun to dream. But God isn’t that haphazard.
God’s people were chosen before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4). He fashioned us in our mother’s wombs and determined our days (Psalm 139:13-16).
Not only were you made on purpose, but God put you in this time and place in human history.
Esther’s story is telling. Her people were in danger. Would she use her position of influence as Queen to persuade the King to change his destructive plans? Her adoptive father Mordechai wondered aloud: “And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
For such a time as this.
I think this logic extends to all of us as well. We can easily conclude that the timing of our lives on earth is accidental. But what if you were put here for such a time as THIS?
What if God wanted witnesses to speak his truth and show his love to a world drowning in its own darkness?
What if God wanted men, women and children to create households and relationships that were so strong in faith and courage that they would be the very foundation upon which the future is built?
What if God wanted someone with hope so high that it eclipsed the tallest building on earth to share his good news with a new generation plagued with anxiety, depression and despair?
What if God wanted someone to address the pandemic of loneliness and to come alongside and become family for those who are lonely even in a crowd?
Perhaps there is another scenario that will present itself to you this year, or perhaps next. But present itself it will.
In the story of Esther, Mordechai was confident that God would help. What if you were one of the ones God was tapping on the shoulder to enlist in his cause?
You were born for such a time as this.
