In 1 Corinthians 1 Paul doubles down to make a point. God is waaaaay smarter than any of us:
“Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?… For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength” (verses 20, 25).
God knows more about running a universe than you do. God knows more about grace and truth than you do. God knows more about how to bring good out of bad than you do.
There’s more: God also knows more about YOU than you do!
This is a part of his knowledge and wisdom. He created you in your mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13). You are his handiwork and he prepared good works for you to do ahead of time (Ephesians 2:10). He even knows the number of hairs on your head (Matthew 10:30).
In short, he knows you more than you know yourself. Sam Allberry put together a statement which beautifully expresses how a growing confidence in this fact helps us to trust him more and more.
“God knows me more than I know myself.
God loves me more than I love myself.
God is more committed to my ultimate joy than I am.
So I can trust him.”*
There are times when we second guess past decisions. We scoff at where we’re at. We worry about missed opportunities. We wonder if we’ve done right by our loved ones. We don’t know what the future holds.
In and through it all, you belong to the Lord. He is never not wise. He is never not true to himself. He is never not providing for his people. Even when you don’t trust yourself, trust God.
“God knows me more than I know myself.
God loves me more than I love myself.
God is more committed to my ultimate joy than I am.
So I can trust him.”*
