Have you ever questioned whether or not you are making a difference? Have you made sacrifices, tried to help others, stretched yourself to grow in faith…
only to doubt whether or not there would ever be any fruit from your labours?
If so, you’re not alone.
But guess what? God can use your sacrifices, hard work and faith, even if you can’t physically see the results.
I don’t watch a lot of television, but I was recently watching an episode of Andor, a Star Wars spinoff. A character named Luthen delivered this incredible line: “I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I’ll never see.” It was a very poetic way of saying that he gives his life to a greater cause, even if he can’t see any immediate result from his efforts. He is working tirelessly so that future generations can see a ‘sunrise’ (i.e. freedom) after the evil Empire has fallen.
His life’s work will outlive his life.
In Titus 2:14 we learn that the people who Jesus died for should be “eager to do what is good.” We want to share the love that has already been lavished on us. But that doesn’t mean we always see the results right away.
When onlookers saw Jesus on the cross, they scoffed. What a failure! I’m sure that’s what it looked like to a lot of people. And yet his work, teachings, sacrifice and resurrection would go on to change the world and the lives of countless billions!
Don’t get discouraged.
Follow Jesus.
Do his work.
The sunrise continues to dawn.
And entrust the results to a faithful, victorious God.
