Without him nothing, with him everything

In 2 Corinthians 5:20 Paul writes: “We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.”

As the people of God this is what we want for all people, including our friends, family members, schoolmates, co-workers, everybody!

But what’s the big deal about reconciliation?

Think first about separation and hostility. There are two opposing sides. Reconciliation happens when something changes and the two sides are able to arrive at some sort of peace. That’s reconciliation. The separation is no longer and the hostility gives way to agreement.

This is what Jesus has done for us. He has reconciled us to God. In our sin and faithlessness we were under condemnation. But Jesus paid the price for our sin and credited his own righteousness to our account. As a result we receive forgiveness and peace with God, our Maker, Judge and Saviour!

There is literally no better gift we could receive. And the benefits extend beyond what we might think at first.

Without Jesus we are lost, with him we are found.

Without him there is darkness, with him there is light.

Without him there is existential anxiety, with him there is peace.

Without him there is hell, with him there is heaven.

Without him there is vengeance, with him there is love.

Without him there is meaninglessness, with him there is purpose.

Without him there is deception, with him there is truth.

Without him there is fear, with him there is courage.

Without him there is despair, with him there is hope.

Sharing or talking about your faith can be intimidating, especially if you don’t have much experience doing it. That’s why it’s important to take some time to think about the difference Jesus makes. He’s not just some sort of spiritual guru who may or may not improve someone’s life. He is everything! Reconciliation is the difference between being estranged from God forever and being adopted by a God who makes all things new and lavishes every good gift upon his children.

“We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.”
