The indication that you are truly alive

In 1 John 3:14 the apostle John writes: “We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death.”

Did you see it? Love flowing from faith. It’s an idea that permeates the letters of the apostle John. It permeates the Gospel he wrote as well.

It has significance for all of us.

Love flowing from faith is the indication that, spiritually speaking, we have passed from death to life.

What about a pulse? Nope. That doesn’t necessarily mean you’re truly alive. What about blood flowing through my veins? Nope. That doesn’t necessarily mean you’re truly alive. What about a house, an impressive job, a lot of YouTube subscribers, or taking a trip to Malibu? Nope. That doesn’t necessarily mean you’re truly alive.

So, what does? Love flowing from faith.

In fact, “Whoever does not love abides in death.” It’s as if death is a dark hole that craves occupants who are ever-busy with pulling others in through selfishness, despair, apathy or vengeance.

People who demonstrate love flowing from faith are not perfect. Nor are they always happy. Life is more complicated than that. But they are showing and sharing the love that Christ has shown and shared with them.

Today is a new day. Love flowing from faith is the indication that, spiritually speaking, we have passed from death to life and are truly alive.
