“…whoever says he abides in [Jesus] ought to walk in the same way in which he walked” (1 John 2:6).
Tucker was in grade eleven. He was in an apprenticeship program to become a welder. He was working and learning under Bill, a retired teacher. Bill was known for three things: his sense of humour, his work ethic and his calm demeanor.
Over time, Tucker’s mom realized that her son was starting to act in a similar way. He too had a sense of humour, was developing a better work ethic, and didn’t get too worked up about problems. He was, as they say, becoming “chill.”
What was happening? Bill was rubbing off on him.
My hope is that this illustration motivates you to spend time with the Lord. When you do, he rubs off on you!
But how do we do that since we can’t see him? We deliberately engage in the time-honoured practices he has given to his people. These are practices like prayer, Bible-reading, weekly worship, growing our character, and serving others. We “spend time with the Lord” by doing the things the Lord wants us to do.
It may not happen overnight. But happen it will. You can’t spend time with Jesus and not be impacted.
Let’s put in the time, and watch the Lord rub off on his people, including you.
