“Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand” (Proverbs 19:21).
Over the years, I have had many conversations with people who want to know about God’s plan for their life.
Does he want me to do this, or that? What should I focus on? Should I change something major in my life? Am I headed in the right—or wrong–direction?
I understand. I too have had these questions.
Quite often, however, God is able to use us for his purposes no matter what decision we make.
Having said that, some decisions are clearly better than others. If you are given the choice between establishing a business that promotes injustice or something like sports-betting among youth, and one that more clearly honours God’s design or intent among our communities, go with that one!
However, when the pathway is uncertain, trust that God is able to use you for his purposes in a variety of scenarios.
Hopefully, this gives you some peace if you think that your choice (either in the past, present, or future) will somehow render you unplugged from God’s purposes.
So, no matter what happens, here is a helpful question: God’s plan includes you; does your plan include him?
Let’s say, for example, you end up doing something outside your field of expertise, or that you end up in Mississippi instead of Manitoba as you had wished, God can still use you. The point is to invite God into your plan.
“Dear Lord, help me reflect the character of Christ with my coworkers.”
“Dear Lord, give me the ability to cooperate with your Spirit in this new situation.”
“Dear Lord, empower me to be your hands and feet among these new people.”
Life is full of surprises. A lot happens. Keep inviting God into your choices, circumstances and plans, no matter what.
God’s plan includes you; does your plan include him?
