The Chinese Bamboo Tree takes a long time to grow above the soil. You need to water it and ensure it gets enough sun… for FOUR years.
It’s not until the fifth year that you actually see anything. But when you do, something awesome happens:
It grows 80 feet in just six weeks!
To the casual observer nothing was happening for those first 4 years. But not so. It was doing everything it needed to do, including developing roots that sank deep into the earth to support the massive tree that was soon to come.
You probably want something awesome for your life, or for someone you care about, or for the world at large. So do I.
You pray and wait and wait and pray. But in the process you can get discouraged because you don’t see progress.
Well I’m here to tell you to keep your chin up. Don’t let discouragement put a stranglehold on your hope. As Paul writes in Romans 8:25: “…if we have hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.”
Think of the Chinese Bamboo Tree. Even though you can’t see progress for four whole years, critical things were still happening. Roots were sinking deep into the earth, soil was giving nourishment, and the sun was doing its thang.
And then… Boom!
The same thing happens with you. Prayer deepens the root structure of your soul. The Bible and other people nourish and guide you. And daily acts of faith ready you for eternal upward glory.
Don’t let a lack of evidence shake your confidence.
Don’t give up hope.
Since God sees things through, so can you.
