Until we are aware of God’s marching orders

Life is full of decisions. Small ones, easy ones, tough ones, and over-sized.

But how do you make decisions in a faithful way? That is true to what God’s purposes might be for your life?

Well, you’re right. That’s a big question. But here’s some advice:

Consult God FIRST.

Carl George writes, “Until we are aware of God’s marching orders, our activities are vain and folly.” When he said that he was talking about the work and direction of churches. But it’s a helpful word for our daily decision making too.

Consult God BEFORE you make a big decision. Don’t just ask for his stamp of approval AFTER you’ve already made up your mind.

This consultation includes prayer. It includes searching the Scriptures. It includes talking to a wise Christian who is a little further down the road than you are. It may even include some fasting.

Proverbs 3:5 says to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart…” For that to happen, you need to ensure he’s the main player in the decision-making boardroom of your brain.

When you live like you’re in charge, some good things can happen. But when you live knowing God’s in charge, great things can.

Consult God BEFORE you make a big decision. Don’t just ask for his stamp of approval AFTER you’ve already made up your mind.
