[Notice: I’m on vacation for August. So this month’s devotionals are some favourites from the past few years – and also previews of my upcoming book: “Up! – 313 Devotionals To Help You Start Your Day In A Biblical, Relevant Way.” Enjoy!]
Have you seen the Zootopia movie? It came out from Disney a few years ago. In one scene, police officer Judy Hopps (a bunny) and Nick Wilde (a fox) go into the Department of Motor Vehicles.
And all the clerks are sloths! So of course, it takes forever for anything to get done. They move at a snail’s pace and even talk at a snail’s pace. Watching them slowwwlllyyy tell a knock knock joke is painful… and hilarious!
And although we laugh at sloths and how long it takes them to do anything, isn’t that kind of like us?
We run and rush and scurry and scatter. But when it comes to those big priorities in life, we’re just so good at going slowly, and delaying, and making excuses.
What big priority are you still waiting to act on?
Maybe it’s a spiritual goal you’ve set for yourself like reading the New Testament or finding a church. Maybe it’s scheduling a weekly family activity so you deepen your relationships. Maybe it’s looking into that new job. Or maybe it’s chipping off the invisible glue that seems to have your backside stuck to the couch so you can get on with establishing an exercise routine.
Well, today I’m here to tell you this:
Procrastination is the pablum of the weak.
Consider Proverbs 15:19: “The way of the sluggard is blocked with thorns, but the path of the upright is a highway.”
So friend, get to it. Today is the best day to change.
