If you’re in a hole, quit digging

Proverbs 26:11 says: “As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly.” In other words, if you keep making the same foolish mistake, you’re like a dog who keeps returning to its own vomit. Gross!

When we take a moment to think about the mistakes we’ve made, many of us probably think about the big ones. But today, I invite you to think about the “small” daily mistakes we make. Here are some examples:

-over-spending with money we don’t have
-spending too much time on social media comparing ourselves to others
-acting impulsively instead of prayerfully
-spending all of our free time on something that just serves us instead of God

In his book GrATTITUDE, Ace Collins recalls something his grandfather once told him: “When you find yourself in a hole, quit digging.” Makes perfect sense. Why would you perpetuate something that you know isn’t good and God-honouring in your life?

Are you in a hole? Quit digging.
