Today many of us wake to disturbing news. We hear of rising tensions between America and Iran.
Just a few weeks ago we were celebrating the birth of the Prince of Peace: “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests” (Luke 2:14).
In times like these I like to keep a few things in mind:
First—and this is especially important when events take place on a massive world stage, and when we as individuals can feel so small and helpless—that God is not small. He is almighty. He is on the throne. He is sovereign and Lord of all. “The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all” (Psalm 103:19). Always.
Second, we can pray for peace. And I think we all should.
Third, we can look within. You can’t change everyone else, but you can change yourself. We can be people who, with confident assurance in our King, the crucified and risen Jesus Christ, can be loving toward others with our words and actions.
-When you feel small and helpless, remember that God is not.
-Pray for peace.
-Look within. You can’t change everyone else, but you can change yourself.
