What rules you?
No, seriously. What RULES you?
Fear? The pursuit of success? An unquenchable desire to be liked?
In Colossians 3:15 Paul writes: “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.”
As “members of one body” (i.e. the church), we should seek peace since we’re in this together.
But when Paul talks about peace he also recalls something else he said earlier in the same letter. In Colossians 1:19-20 he said that we are given peace with God—forever—through what Jesus did for us on the cross.
THAT’s the peace that is to rule in our hearts. What a gift!
Even if you lose your job, get sick, fail at work, are unfriended by “friends,” or are anxious or tired, the peace of Christ can RULE in your heart. Why? Because you know your eternity is secure.
When the COVID-19 pandemic began, a young person said to me, “I don’t want to die from the coronavirus; but even if I did, that would be okay because I’m going to heaven.”
Mike drop.
“Let the peace of Christ RULE in your hearts.”
In him, your eternity is secure.
