Hebrews 1 begins like this: “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe” (verses 1-2).
Wow, what an introduction!
In the past God spoke to our ancestors through prophets like Moses, Samuel, Elijah, Jeremiah and Isaiah, but now something new has happened. He has spoken to us through his very own Son, Jesus!
There is something definitive, authoritative and final about the words of Jesus. No one else is going to come along and say something better. No other books are going to be added to the Bible.
As I think through the implications of this, I can’t help but think that if—in our quests for wisdom, strength and hope—we’re looking for something other than Jesus, we’re looking for something less.
He is the heir of all things. Through him God made the universe. The next verse goes on to say that his is “the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.”
Wow! What a gift… to you and me!
If you’re looking for something other than Jesus, you’re looking for something less.
Be confident in Jesus. Trust his teachings. Rest in his strength. Be assured of your salvation.
“in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son…”
