They were tired. They were undergoing hardship. They were questioning Jesus.
You get the sense that they didn’t think God was noticing their work, their love, and the help they were giving to others. ‘Was any of it making a difference?’
It’s fair to say that they needed some encouragement. So the writer of Hebrews gave them just that in chapter 6, verse 10: “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.”
Is that a word that you need to hear as well?
When no one else seems to notice your hard work, or the blood, sweat and tears you dispense behind the scenes… God does. When no one seems to appreciate you, or say ‘Thank you’ when you’ve put in all that effort… God notices.
He won’t forget your hard work or the love you have shown him and the help you give to his people, and which you continue to give to them.
Is it nice to get acknowledged? Sure it is. But ultimately, we live for an audience of One.
You are valued. You are appreciated.
Ours is a God of faithfulness, not forgetfulness.
He notices. And more specifically, he notices you.
