Pray big at the throne

John 4:47 describes a desperate plea by a desperate father: “When [he] heard that Jesus had arrived… he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death.”

They were in Cana, but the sick child was in Capernaum. Nevertheless, Jesus healed him—right then and there, and from a distance of about 27 kilometres away!

To me this is an encouragement to pray big prayers in Jesus’ name for the glory of God!

Over time, and if we run up against a thousand and one discouragements, our prayers can grow tepid and timid. That’s why we need a reminder (like this one) that God is God, that he cares, and that he responds to the prayers of those who have pledged allegiance to his Son.

Do you want dramatic help?
Are you out of options?
Do you long for world change?
Do you want God to flex his muscle?
Do you need a miracle?

Hebrews 4:16 directs us: “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

When I was playing hockey we had an expression: “Go big or go home.” What if we tweaked that a little bit? “Pray big at the throne!”

Pray big prayers in Jesus’ name for the glory of God.
