Being Christlike to one another

The great Reformer Martin Luther, wrote: “each person ought to become to the other a kind of Christ, so that we may be Christs to one another…“*

One of our goals in life is sanctification. I know, I know, big word. But all it means is to become holy, or to become more like Christ.

“Be holy, because I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16).

One of the things Luther’s quote teaches us is this. When we become more Christlike, we share that Christlikeness with others. If you are becoming more like Christ you will inevitably bless other people. Sure, you’ll have your pile of mistakes. And some days will be better than others. But the Holy Spirit within you will work through you.

Think back over the past couple of days. Who has shown Christlikeness to you? Was it a friend, a sibling, someone at church, a neighbour, or someone else in your family?

Take a moment to give thanks to God.

Then think about how you can be Christlike to someone else.

If you are praying for more of God’s light, love and truth in the world, and if you just so happen to be a follower of Jesus, then you are a part of your own answered prayer in the life of somebody else.

“each person ought to become to the other a kind of Christ, so that we may be Christs to one another…”
