Encased in grace

God showers the people of his world with blessing.

That’s not to say that every situation is good. But everything that happens which is good comes from God.

In fact, you experience many godly blessings each and every day that you probably don’t even realize. Blessing is happening all around you. All of them are from God.

Some of these blessings are only for his people. These are things such as forgiveness, the peace of Christ, the Holy Spirit living within you, the confidence of heaven and eternity, and a life of meaningful service in the kingdom.

But there are a wider range of blessings that are for everyone. Jesus highlights some of them when he says that God “causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous” (Matthew 5:45). Righteous people experience the blessings of sun and rain, but so do unrighteous people.

Just to live in this world in the presence of our Creator God is to experience some measure of blessing.

Think of it like this. You are encased in grace.

I heard recently of the “art of noticing.” Since we can get so busy and distracted, we can easily stop noticing all the goodness around us. Again, not everything is good. There is real evil in the world. But there are also many, many blessings.

One day I started to make a list…

-quiet
-fresh air
-a home
-comfy pajamas
-a snuggling dog
-a flush toilet
-fresh coffee
-a hug
-my Bible
-sleeping children
-the sunrise

And that was only by 6:20 am!

When you practice the art of noticing, you increasingly start to appreciate the extent of God’s majesty and mercy… yesterday, today, and forever.

You are encased in grace.

Let’s practice the art of noticing. As we do, let’s also be increasingly confident in the majesty and mercy of our generous God.
