His words will never ever pass away

It’s hard to deal with change. Depending on what it is, it can make you feel like you’re standing on quicksand. It can make you lose sleep or worry about the future. It can disrupt your sense of stability.

That’s why I’d like you to consider Mark 13:31. It’s one of my favourite Bible verses. “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

The oldest manuscripts of this verse are in Greek. Jesus’ words carry even more force in the original. The sense is this: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never ever pass away!”

It’s easier to deal with change when you’re permanently tethered to the ever-enduring words of the sovereign Christ.

You may move homes—but you are gloriously bound to the One whose word endures forever.

You may lose your job—but you are gloriously bound to the One whose word endures forever.

You may experience betrayal—but you are gloriously bound to the One whose word endures forever.

Your nation may collapse—but you are gloriously bound to the One whose word endures forever.

The world may fall apart—but you are gloriously bound to the One whose word endures forever.

Change is hard. I get it. I like routine as much as the next guy. But change is a part of life. However, there is nothing to fear when you’re permanently tethered to the ever-enduring words of the sovereign Christ.

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”
