John F. Kennedy was an American President in the early 1960’s. That office is considered by many to be the most powerful in the world.
Apparently, when JFK was having important meetings at the White House, his son would sometimes wander in. John-John (as he was called) would walk over to his dad and sit on his lap—all when his dad was meeting with important and high-ranking people!
Who else could have that kind of access to the most powerful man in the world, and who else could so quickly get the attention of the most powerful man in the world, as his own child?
God is sovereign, holy and majestic. He is given titles of King, Saviour, and Lord. At the same time, we are invited to call him Father. He has adopted us and lavished his love and forgiveness upon us.
This is one of the unique things about our faith. He’s amazing because he is both almighty and personal at the same time.
When I read that story about John-John it made me think of Hebrews 4:16: “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Yes, draw near reverently, but also with confidence in the one who has adopted you and lavished you with grace.
