True beauty

Our world is often messed up when it comes to what it thinks is beautiful.

That’s why I think the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty is such a success. People know—deep within—that we’re paying attention to the wrong things when it comes to beauty.

Well, do you want to know who is TRULY beautiful? God. And do you want to know what else is TRULY beautiful? Glorifying and honouring God.

Psalm 96:9 reads: “Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness…” His holiness has splendor. Or, at it is translated in the historic King James Version: “in the beauty of holiness.”

Theologian John Piper says: “In the Bible, I don’t know of any truth that is more fundamentally pervasive than God’s zeal to be glorified.”*

Prayer—THAT’S true beauty.
Caring for neighbours—THAT’S true beauty.
Anonymous acts of kindness—THAT’S true beauty.
Personal holiness—THAT’S true beauty.
Singing songs of faith—THAT’S true beauty.
Integrity in the workplace—THAT’S true beauty.
Pondering Scripture—THAT’S true beauty.
Seeking justice for someone—THAT’S true beauty.
A humble spirit—THAT’S true beauty.

True beauty is honouring the One who is beauty itself, and who created true beauty in the first place. Why stare at a broken light bulb stuck in the muck when we can gaze at the stars!

No matter what’s happening in your life, or in our world, you are summoned to seek and value the higher beauty of glorifying God day by day.
