Everyone isn’t in the same “place” as you are. That statement is true physically, but also mentally. We are scattered all over the geographical map. But we are also experiencing different stresses, strains and emotions right now.
I think that’s just good to remember. Why? Because it changes our behaviour toward others.
At the start of the pandemic we were “all in this together.” Now, different regions are going through different things—and to an even greater degree than before. It can be confusing, and maybe even frustrating.
For example, I recently watched a Blue Jays game. They were playing in Texas against the Rangers—and the stadium had thousands of people in it! Here in Ontario (where I live), we’re in a third wave lockdown because of the pandemic and my kids are back at home learning remotely. We can’t even go out for haircuts!
Everyone is under some sort of pressure—at work, at home, or in their brains. Some are okay; many are not. We are wise to acknowledge this fact and think twice before lashing out.
In a broad statement about living like believers, 1 Peter 3:8-9 says: “Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing…”
If that was good counsel then, it is still good counsel now.
When you know you’re not the only one who is struggling, you’re less likely to treat others like the enemy.
On second thought, maybe we can all be in the same “place”—a place of love, compassion, and humility.

–Bible quotes are from the NIV.
–This Sunday (April 25, 2021) at Westminster I will be preaching about Luke 18:35-43. How would YOU respond if Jesus looked you in the face and asked, “What do you want me to do for you?”
–Do you LISTEN to The Up Devotional as a podcast on iTunes (Apple), Spotify, Google Podcasts, or Stitcher? If so, it would be great if you rate and leave a quick review. It really does help get the word out. Thanks!
