As a person of faith, you should be aware of (and honest about) your own sin.

At the same time, you should be confident that God’s power is not handcuffed by your sin or weakness.

Handcuffs are meant to stop someone from doing something. Do you really think your flaws and foibles can bind the hands of Almighty God?

In the New Testament, Jesus says “follow me” exactly twenty times. Every single recipient of those two words was an imperfect sinner. He knew that. But he still said it. 

And he still does.

There will be times when God’s work in and through your life will be obvious; there will be other times when it won’t. There will be times when you see it right away; there will be other times when you won’t. You may not even see it in your lifetime.

But you can be sure that God can and does use your small and imperfect acts of love, respect, humility, forgiveness, hard work, creativity, and integrity in the building up of his kingdom.

In Philippians 2:13, Paul writes: “for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”

Trust God’s work through you despite you.

God’s power is not handcuffed by your weakness.
