Recently during a Sunday message Jeff Walther shared one of those quotes that makes you think, think again, and then think some more:
“Ships don’t sink because of water around them. Ships sink because of water that gets in them. Don’t let what’s happening around you get inside you and weigh you down.”*
We’re all nodding our heads, aren’t we? If so, why is it so hard to put that principle into practice?
It’s because we’re more porous than we’d like to admit! There is invisible junk all around us—words, worries, fears and frettings which somehow ooze their way around and through the flimsy paneling surrounding our hearts.
But what if your heart was so well fortified that it could actually withstand the junk before it had a chance to sink you from within?
Proverbs 4:23 says: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Have you ever considered the fact that your heart needs guarding?
Pray and put on the armour of God (see Ephesians 6:10-18). Grow a media diet that honours God. Cultivate relationships based on humility, respect, honesty and love.
Don’t sink, sail.
Above all else. Guard your heart. For everything you do flows from it.
