“God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 1:5, NLT).
Dwain and Lorie Hargis had fostered many children. One year they met Olivia, a young girl who had bounced from house to house.
She had a tough life and had learned how to work the system to get to a new home if she didn’t like the one she was currently in. But Dwain and Lorie were really seeking God’s will when they welcomed Olivia into their lives. They weren’t going to be put off easily.
Reader’s Digest tells their story: “Although Olivia had experienced hardships in her young life, she eventually learned that she could trust Dwain and Lorie. Lorie recalls, ‘She was very used to people giving up on her, and not wanting her. She tried to test the waters with us. When she figured out we weren’t going to give up, she finally learned to trust and love us as her parents.’”*
God is not one to give up easily on his children. He has chosen us. He has ADOPTED us.
Perhaps after testing the limits, the one thing we learn is that his love doesn’t have any.
That’s the power of adoption and grace—and it’s what God has done for us in Christ.
Pray with confidence. Worry less. Be at peace. Serve others. Smile. Rest.
Why? Because as you journey through the various pathways of life with a loving Father who is also the Creator of heaven and earth, you can rest assured that you’re already home.
—INTERVIEW. Alisa Childers had a crisis of faith. But it prompted her to become much more intellectually informed against a movement which was (and is) seeking to redefine or radically re-interpret many of the historic, biblical truths of God. My latest podcast is an interview with Alisa. She shares what’s she’s learned, and offers helpful advice for seeking a modern faith which is robust and undiluted.
