Hebrews 10:14 says: “For by one sacrifice [Jesus] has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.”
What I’d like to focus on from that verse is the fact that Jesus’ people are “being made holy.” This refers to the work God himself is doing in and through us. This manifests in our daily thinking and living as we grow in spiritual maturity and seek to become—with God’s help!—more like Jesus in love, truth, humility, and obedience.
We are works-in-progress, yes; but we are in the process of being made holy, day by day.
In our society, we seem to overemphasize what we’re doing and underemphasize who we’re becoming. But sanctification—the process of being made holy—is about who we’re becoming.
When two people spend a lot of time together they start to say and do the same sorts of things. They’ll even start to finish each other’s sentences. You see it in best friends or married couples.
This is what happens as we spend time with Jesus. We start to say and do the same sorts of things that he says and does.
God is making the rest of his children look like his beloved Son, one day at a time.
God’s job is transformation; yours is cooperation.
