When I was in grade seven or eight, a few of us were egging a friend on. He liked a certain girl but was struggling to get the nerve up to go over and talk to her.
‘If you don’t go over there, she’ll never know you exist!’ we said.
Hebrews 10:24 says: “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds…”
‘Spurring someone on’ to do something is kind of like ‘egging someone on’ to do something—subtracting, of course, any sense of taunting which may be present in the minds of schoolyard kids!
As followers of Jesus, we are egging one another on toward love and good deeds.
‘Let’s pray for one another.’ ‘What’s a good way to help so-and-so?’ ‘Who’s going to need something this holiday season to make it special?’ ‘Person X could probably use someone to talk to.’
Let’s spur one another on toward love and good deeds.
