If you have a personal and authentic belief in God you are going to have fewer control issues.
I realize this is a work in progress for a lot of you. Oops, typo. I meant to say “we”!
We like to control our schedules, our calories (sometimes), and our sleep patterns, playlists and posts.
We would also like to control our FUTURE. Wouldn’t it be great if we could be sure of where we’ll be, who we’ll be with, and what we’ll be doing in the years ahead?
But of course, that’s a dream. We might have a pretty good handle on our direction, but life has a way of handing us detours when we’re least expecting them.
Even though we can’t control the future, we can grow our faith in the God who holds that future in his hands. Proverbs 19:21 says: “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.” That verse is a pointed reminder that he is running the show.
Following Jesus is an act of faith because it acknowledges that your future belongs to God and not to you.
This may be a bit unsettling for you, especially if your vibrating need for control is a 10 on the Richter scale. But it’s also liberating. You learn to let more things go. You learn to stress less. You learn to focus on today. You learn to enjoy the journey and living by faith one day at a time…
In Christ, your eternal destination is sure, even if your specific roadmap is littered with twists and turns.
Following Jesus is an act of faith because it acknowledges that your future belongs to God and not to you.
